Discussion Starter 4 Feb 17 2014. If the temperature gauge reads high it could mean your engine is overheating.
This continues to happen.
Temperature gauge reads hot but engine cool. Try unplugging the cable from the sensor. Does the gauge immediately rise to hot even when the engine is completely cold. If so you still have to track down the problem but you know what you are looking for.
Note the problem might not be at the temp sensor end of the wiring - it could be another connector or a damaged wire. The temperature gauge can show hot without the engine overheating which still means that is a problem. It should not be above 210 degrees.
Reasons the Temperature Gauge Reads High If the temperature gauge reads high it could mean your engine is overheating. Another reason your reading might be high is you could be losing coolant. A small leak or evaporation may cause your radiator to slowly lose coolant.
A third reason your temperature gauge reads high could be because the thermostat is broken. Both of these will lead to excessive coolant overflow due to lack of circulation causing hot spots to develop where the coolant is boiling and expanding to push coolant out of the system. This also creates air pockets which can make the temp gauge quickly jump or fall.
The first thing you should do is flush your cooling system. Feb 26 2005. Just remember that engines whose exhaust exits toward the front of the car will seem hotter than engines whose exhaust exits toward the firewall.
It may not necessarily be that the engine is running hot and more than likely your gauge is actually reading the correct temp. Temperature gauge shows hot but the engine is normal operating te My wifes 1997 Subaru legacy wagon 25 auto ac shows that it is running hot. Both fans run constantly but the engine runs at normal operating temp.
A few minutes later the AC starts blowing hot again so I turn it off then realize my Temp gauge on the dash is running unusually hot. So I opened the windows and turn the heat on 4. The car started to cool off.
The temp gauge then began to start creeping up and down and ran hotter when I turned the heat off to see what it would do. Many factory temperature gauges are designed to read in the middle of the gauge over an extremely wide range of temperatures and may not tell you if you have a car running hot but not overheating. If youre looking for a quick and easy way to get an accurate reading of your coolant temperature you may consider using a device that can read the exact temperature from your cars coolant temperature.
Temperature Gauge is always reads hot before even starting driving Hi after just starting the contact without turning on the engine the temperature gauge needle starting to raise and stop on the middle and after starting the engine the needle starting to raise immediately until reaching the H mark in a matter of seconds is the problem in the temperature gauge itself or in something else. If the gauge goes up even with the engine cold and only with the key at ON then there could be a short somewhere in the wiring to the gauge including in the sensor. But if the gauge stays down low when the engine is cold but starts to come up quickly and too high once the engine has been running that could well be the sensor.
Your oil temps will run hotter than your water temps your exiting the engine water temp is 10 degrees above the temp required to open the thermostat coolant flows through the radiator and youre dissipating over 30 degrees of water temp before cycling back thru the engine. My 02 S60 while coldturn on the ignition temp guage showes hot cooling fann runs even when ignition is off also turn engine off warning comes on. Temp Gauge Reading Hot Temp Gauge Reading Hot.
By Bull Geek June 13 2012 in Maintenance Repair. Ive burped the cooling system twice now upping the RPM running the defrost on high heat. Check the actual engine temp IR therm next to the sender and see if it jives.
The radiator could be plugged could have plugged cooling passageways could have a defective water pump loose belt issue collapsed hose excessive load on the engine due to dragging brakes underinflated tires and so forth. Also if the engine timing is off the engine running too lean or the exhaust is plugged catalytic converter those conditions can cause the engine to overheat. 2007 silerado 43 says engine hot ac turned off.
Temp gauge reads 160 after 40 to 80 miles every thing is alright. This continues to happen. When the boat is running and fully up to temp the gauge reads 190 to 195 degrees.
Now if I leave the boat and let it get fully cold like the next day the gauge will usually still be stuck at the hottest temp the boat ran at when the key is in the off position. The temperature gauge in your vehicle is designed to indicate the temperature of your engines coolant. This gauge will tell you if your engines coolant is cold normal or overheating.
It is an important dial that is located on the dashboard of your vehicle. Reasons the Temperature Gauge Reads High. If the temperature gauge reads high it could mean your engine is overheating.
Another reason your reading. Discussion Starter 4 Feb 17 2014. I would suspect there to be air trapped in the cooling system.
You might want to jack the front of the car up to create an incline with the front high and with a cold engine remove the radiator cap and then start the engine and let it warm. The temp gauge got to about 240 deg F and then spiked higher when the engine was shut off and the fan quit running. It bubbled in the overflow jug for a little while and then cooled off.
Went back to normal and didnt return until the next time I got stuck in hot stop and go traffic.
