According to JRob took them 2 weeks to fix the problem. If it gets stuck open you have the symptom where gas spews out when the tank reaches full and if it gets stuck closed you can barely pump any gas into the tank.
When that canister gets clogged with dirt you will have problems refilling the tank.
Problems pumping gas into tank. Some cars have a solenoid valve in the gas tank venting system that is supposed to be open when the car is turned off. It allows air to escape the gas tank as you fill it. If that valve fails to open when it should the air cant escape fast enough as the tank is filled the air pressure builds up quickly which turns off the gas pump.
It is an issue of venting in the fuel tank and the emission system in the car. Not all cars or trucks behave in the same way. It is a pain in the butt for sure.
You can hold on to the seal and prevent it from covering the filler tube. But then it will keep sending fuel into the tank. Once you get a few droplets of raw gas on the top of the tank these vapors tend to rise and find their way into the passengers compartment.
Another possibility of having a fuel smell inside the car becomes a fuel tank vent thats not closing properly. I had gotten a new fuel filter pump after a bad bad gas occasion and i had the same problem it was my vent tube because u are putting fluid into tank with no air present the fill tube is the only way for the air to excape allowing fluid to go into the tank i have a 99 ranger and my vent was right up on the top left side piece of cake to fix 5 min job. Every gas tank has a vent tube so when you fill the tank air can escape while the fuel is being pumped into the tank.
Some vent tubes are metal some rubber. Yours is either collapsed or plugged up. Look at the fill tube in the firebird and follow it from the gas cap to the tank there should be a 2nd smaller tube that is your vent tube.
This is a known problem with the Contour gas tanks. At the bottom of the filler pipe where it enters the tank is a flapper anti-surge check valve designed to prevent fuel from splashing up the pipe and spilling out on hard turns and etc. The problem is over the years the plastic parts of this flapper swell and the valve will stick in.
An early shut-off can be triggered if the fuel is not flowing freely into the tank. Angling the fuel nozzle into the fill pipe differently usually does the trick. Holding the handle up instead of letting it hang down or rotate it a bit in the fill tube mouth.
05 Impala fueling issues. The gas pump handle clicks off so much it takes forever to gas up. I replaced the fuel vent solenoid behind the fender skirt by the filler tube.
I blew into the hose thats goes from the solenoid to the canister and pressure builds up in the tank and releases backwards out the tube i blew into. For those with fueling issues and newer capless gas tanks try flipping the pump nozzle upside down while you fill your tank. The capless gas tank EVAP spring mechanism needs to be broken in thats why the fuel flow keeps stopping.
Inserting the nozzle upside down will extend the capless EVAP mechanism springs further allowing fuel to flow freely. If a leak in the EVAP system is detected the Check Engine light will illuminate on the dash and the trouble code related to the problem will be stored in the engine computer. If you have an air leak in the EVAP system then the MAP sensor will not be able to determine the air density and the MAF sensor will not be able to determine the volume of air entering the engine.
If it gets stuck open you have the symptom where gas spews out when the tank reaches full and if it gets stuck closed you can barely pump any gas into the tank. The GM check valve inserted into the Jeep fuel filler hose or replacing the fuel filler hose with the GM hose will stop gas from spewing out when the tank gets full. You can overfill the tank and get liquid fuel in the evap system your venting tubes can melt collapse etc.
Basically your tank isnt venting as it should for one of a few possible reasons. Putting fuel in it now is like when you flip an oil jug completely over where no air can get in except in reverse no air can get out. I cant put gas in the tank.
The nozzle clicks off after a quart or so. Tried 3 gas stations thinking the pumps were just running too fast. According to JRob took them 2 weeks to fix the problem.
This is the first real problem Ive had with the truck though. Hoping they can re-flash the module as well to get it to recognize the 32 gallon tank. Anyone else having issues pumping gas into their truck.
I love the truck its good drive and no other issues other than when it comes to filling it up. The pump keeps clicking off every few seconds making the process take up to 20 minutes to get my tank full and on multiple occasions the nozzle got stuck in and took all my strength to pull the sucker out. I put the pump in all the way then back it out about an inch and it works great.
I struggled with this issue for a while until I found the sweet spot. My gas tank vent hose was flopping around inside the body near the filler hose. Once I secured that vent hose to point upwards next to the filler hose pumping gas got a lot easier.
The canister has a charcoal filter in it and traps vapors when fuel is evaporated and sends that fuel back into the tank. When that canister gets clogged with dirt you will have problems refilling the tank. The scary part is when you take your truck into the shop for this problem they can charge you quite a bit to replace this part.
I only use shell fuel in my car and iv never had the problem by the sounds of it i think u need to insert the fuel pipe jus slightly past the shutter of the pipe which stops the fuel comming back out of the tank. It usually starts clicking in the pump when it gets a back-log of fuel up the pipe and the presssure builds up above a pre-determined value which i dont knw as i. It is definitely the issue with the gas tankevap canister or vent hose.
Seems the two most common issues are the tank or evap canister. I can do the evap canister no problem myself but i hate to throw parts at it. Just want to see who else had the issue and if it was the tank or the evap canister that solved the issue or something else thanks.
Rather than escape into the atmosphere its routed to the canister where the gas fumes are trapped by the charcoal. The scrubbed air is then exhausted through a drain valve and filter. If this path is blocked and the air cant move out of the tank fuel from the nozzle backs up in the fill tube and triggers the gas pump nozzle to shut off.
-It connects to the charcoal canister under the rear by the gas tank A lot of people refer to it as the evap valve or solenoid. -You have to crawl under but its just above and infront of the rear axel-A screw driver to pry up on the tab in the middle of the bracket and the same with tabs on the hose to release it. Today after using about 12 tank of gas I went to fill the tank for the first time.
As soon as I put the fuel nozzle into the opening the nozzle clicked off. This happened several times with no gas pumped at all. Finally I had to put absolute minimum pressure on the nozzle in order to slowly fill my tank.
It took forever to pump in 7 gallons. It is a 2004 MC and on and off when I try to fill it up with gas the pump will click off like my tank is full even though Ii KNOW it is not. If I try ro keep filling it the gas will overflow.
Ive taken it in and of course the dealership said there was no problems. I have tired different gas stations and nothing works.
