You also need to remember that the reading of the temperature does not imply that the headers or exhaust values are that hot. I was wanting to do my exhaust pipes in a glossy black high temp paint but the auto stores only have flat. The VHT paints they had are rated for something like 1000 degrees but is that for cars or do motorcycles get that hot too.
I know that most of the motor paints can handle temperatures up to. It would be hard to believe it would get more then 100 degrees hotter then the engine so that would put temp not more then 300 degrees but who knows 500 would probably be fine. Right at the manifolds usually in the 700 to 1000 degree range depending on the load on the engine. More load more heat out the exhaust. If youre running the motor REALLY hard or you have something wrong like retarded ignition timing or over fueling that transfers some of t.
