Every gas tank has a vent tube so when you fill the tank air can escape while the fuel is being pumped into the tank. Two smaller ones in the upper leftright and one large one on the bottom.
Yours is either collapsed or plugged up.
Gas won t go into tank. It seems to be a simple matter of physics. If gas is entering the tank the air that was occupying the area where there is now gas has to escape somehow like through a vent tube or something. Try to blow air with your mouth into an empty plastic milk container.
You wont get very far. Now poke a small hole in the bottom of the container. Cant get gas to go in tank and it will spit out gas.
Every gas tank has a vent tube so when you fill the tank air can escape while the fuel is being pumped into the tank. Some vent tubes are metal some rubber. Yours is either collapsed or plugged up.
Knowing the tank cant possibly be full I keep working on filling the tank at a rate of less than a gallon per click until 10-12 possibly more gallons later I see gas come out of the tube. Theres no other way to work out when my tanks full as I have no way of determining how much fuel is in the tank to begin with. The most common reason for failure is over-filling the gas tank which clogs the charcoal canister with liquid gas it is supposed to only trap vapors.
Other reasons include failures of various valves tanks and hoses. Look at your capless gas system. There are 3 plastic tabs that must be pushed in by the nozzle before the metal flap will release and allow the pump in.
Two smaller ones in the upper leftright and one large one on the bottom. Sometimes these can get gummed up or in my case were kinda defective straight from the factory. Car Gas Tank Wont Accept Fuel.
When you pull up at the gas station you should be able to insert the fuel pumping nozzle and hold it wide open until tank becomes completely filled. The shape of the gas tank allows some fuel to back up into the fuel filler hose to shut the nozzle off automatically. Discussion Starter 1 Jul 7 2011.
I have a 2004 Subie Outback with 80K on her. For the last year or so I have had an on-againoff-again issue with filling my gas tank. As I try to pump gas into the tank after 2-3 seconds the pump will shut off and gas will spray back at me from around the hose nozzle.
Then whatever gas I pumped into the. I cant put gas in the tank. The nozzle clicks off after a quart or so.
Tried 3 gas stations thinking the pumps were just running too fast. According to JRob took them 2 weeks to fix the problem. This is the first real problem Ive had with the truck though.
Hoping they can re-flash the module as well to get it to recognize the 32 gallon tank. When this is not working properly you may experience the gas pump shutting off prematurely causing it to take a very long time to fill up your fuel tank. This is due to the excess fuel vapor that is present when the purge solenoid is not working properly by releasing these vapors.
The gas pumps at the fuel station have automatic sensors on them for safety. The ball is held against a cage so that fuel can pass into the tank. However once the tank is full the ball floats in the filler neck and stops against the opening blocking access.
In the case with my vehicle the ball not only serves to prevent siphoning but also prevents fuel from splashing up into the filler while driving. The Fuel Evap Canister is located on the bottom of the vehicle and is required due to EPA regulations. The canister has a charcoal filter in it and traps vapors when fuel is evaporated and sends that fuel back into the tank.
When that canister gets clogged with dirt you will have problems refilling the tank. This is a different symptom of the same problem where the defective check valve in the inlet of the gas tank that used to be stuck open is now stuck closed so you cant fill it up with gas. Had the same issue with my 2013 300-C.
I was at th gas station but i couldnt refuel because the fuel nozzel wouldnt go in. If you look closely there are two buttons located on each side inside the fuel inlet. The gas nozzel is suppose.
The gas tank has a separate vent system to allow the air in the tank to escape as it is being filled. Most of the air goes through this vent system and not the plastic tube intake you checked. If you look at the tank filler port were the fueling nozzle goes you may see a hole on the side this is the exist hole for the air.
Just stopped for my third fuel stop only have 1000 miles on my new 2013 SEL Prem and there is this metal bar in the fueling tank that is stopping the diesel nozzle from going down so I can get some fuel. It wasnt there the first two fuel stops and it wont move. What is going on.
Tried lockingunlocking doors no help. Using your small pump pressurize the system a bit. Not much dont want to risk damaging other seals.
The gas cap will need to be in place for this to happen 4. Once you have a little bit of pressure go to the tank vent line where it connects to the charcoal filter and remove it. Repeat until very little comes out.
2003 kia sorento gas tank fill up spits out wont go in. My other videos show how to fix it. If playback doesnt begin shortly try.
The problem is caused by one of two things. -The tank is run low and filling it causes a vapor lock to shut the gas pump off repeatedly until you reach around 13 of a tank. -It doesnt matter what fuel level you start with the gas pump continually shuts off.
Fourth tank finally fixed this problem. Might be something from the ethanol in the fuel expanding the plastic check valve. Not sure but 4 tanks of gas gone and about 1100 total cost to replace tank and too many trips for defective replacement parts.
This was with 125000 on 2003 impala 34. If it sticks open you have the gas spit out and it sticks closed or partially closed you can run the gas pump wide open. There is a youtube video somewhere that shows what the valve looks like but I cant find it again.
I actually dropped the tank on mine to try to fix that stupid valve gave up before I broke the plastic tank. O Refer to the ESM section FL Fuel System to replace the fuel tank. Replace ONLY the section of the vent line that contains the blockage.
The vent line between the tank and canister may be made up of multiple. Honda Pilot 2017 1400 miles on it. Tonight the gas pump would not go in all the way.
Stuck out of the tank 2. Therefore pump shut off before filling tank.
