When I fill the tank there is fuel leaking from somewhere around the tank at the bottom of the car. If you have a Calif tank you can tell by looking in the trunk youll have a metal tube attached to the pass side trunk floor.
Reach up inside the bedside and feel to make sure the necks are still connected.
Gas leaks when filling tank. Perhaps it is just the filler neck leaking the pipe between gas cap and tank. Not sure about cost. Fuel tank might have to be taken down to remove filler neck.
When you overfill the tank there is apparently an overfill drain. I seem to recall Bluebee exploring this a while ago asking where the drainage holes around the filler opening went. Be aware that topping off overfilling slowly killing your very expensive vapour recovery charcoal canister.
The top of the tank has an opening where the gas guage sending unit is installed. The gasket can give out and it can leak when the tank is completely full but wont necessarily show signs of leakage when the tank is partially full. When I pump gas into the car most of that gas leaks out.
It GUSHES out from under the car. I had an empty tank and managed to pump about 6 gallons before someone at the gas station pointed out the river of gasoline pouring from my car. Maybe 3 gallons of gas made it to the tank.
The leak appears to only be present in the line leading to the gas tank. One of the rubber lines attached to it was leaking. The gas ran down to the front of the tank dripped.
Only replacement of the line was necessary. If you have a Calif tank you can tell by looking in the trunk youll have a metal tube attached to the pass side trunk floor. Also take a look under your back seat if you can figure out how to remove it usually there are two clips like things on each side like if you sat in the back seat they are like postioned right around the middle of your legs at the front or at your right knee in the front peace my man lemme know how things go and also once the gas level drops does it stop leaking thats a important thing to know also cause if she does stop leaking thats almost a definent answer that the tank.
When I fill the tank there is fuel leaking from somewhere around the tank at the bottom of the car. Its enough to puddle under the car. There is no fuel smell at all in the cabin so fairly certain its not something like the fuel pumptank seal.
Im guessing it is probably the feed or return line to the tank. A damaged seal between the gas tank and fill spout would leak when youre filling the car and all excess fuel in the spout would leak out. After that there would be no leak as the rest of the fuel is below the damaged area.
A quick way to check for this would be to go top up. Unbolt the bed unbolt the filler tube from the bed maybe unhook the rear light wiring harness just in case the bed slips and doesnt take out the wiring which should only be one connector and you should be able to lift the left side up and shore it with the 2x4s. This should give you easy access to the filler tube bolts on the fuel tank.
There are 2 necks one for the gas to get into the tank and the other for the air to leave the tank when filling. Reach up inside the bedside and feel to make sure the necks are still connected. When I dropped my tank on my 98 I was sure that I didnt get on connected back up and thats all I can think of where the gas is coming from.
If the fuel leaks from the tank only when the tank is full the filler neck is probably cracked or if made of rubber the clamp may be loose and not sealing correctly also the rubber may be cracked. My best guess is that you filled your tank VERY full filling VERY slowly the last gallon or so gets virtually ALL the air out of the tank. Gas stations have tanks buried underground where the ambient temp is probably in the range of 65-70F even when the air temp in Las Vegas is 100F or more in the sun.
2009 - 2014 Ford F150 - Gas Leak while filling - I thought I saw a thread on this before but cant seem to find it. Anyone have this issue while filling their tank. It started leaking under the truckso i looked at where it was coming from and it seems to be leaking near the top area closer to where the pump goes.
Fuel LEAK or Smell Gas Check fuel filler. Recently I noticed a strong gas smell emitting from outside the truck after driving. Alsothe truck has become harder to start when it is cold.
The truck is a 2003 Chevy S10 22L with the vin H motor. It has 60k miles on it. After looking under the truck I noticed gas leaking from the gas tank and it appears to be coming from above the tank.
A fuel leak is when gasoline leaks from the gas tank of the vehicle. Underneath the car will be a spot of fuel on the pavement along with the strong smell of gasoline. A fuel leak should not be ignored so as soon as you notice these signs it is time to make an appointment with a mechanic right away.
Gas smell is mostly at the rear or just beside the gas cap area. Jacked up the van today and saw the leak right away. It seems to be coming from the lip of the hose coming from the filler neck connecting to the tank itself.
At first I thought it was the fuel pump housing crack like the ones on the newer odys. If you fill it to full sitting upright itll leak on the kickstand and especially if sitting in the sun as the fuel warms and expands. Get used to filling the bike on the kickstand and its less likely to vent onto the ground.
There have been reports of rusting of the filler tube leading to CELs due to incorrect pressure in the fuel tank. Same as a loose gas cap But a hole in the filler tube would leak liquid only if the tank is overfilled up into the tube which shouldnt be done because it can cause liquid fuel to get into the charcoal vapor recovery box also. Thanks for everyones input.
When the spill was first noticed I assumed I just overfilled it so over the next few fill ups I made a concious effort to make sure and not overfill the tankfiller neck and have gas in the gas cap area. The leak or spillage is happening without any overflow in the filler cap area. Basically if I was to fill the tank from empty there would be spillage before the gas pump nozzle would even click off to indicate a full tank.
In order to test for leaks take off the rear seat fill up your tank and inspect the seal immediately. If the seal holds up against the high pressure created inside the tank then youre good to go. Of course youd ideally want the Araldite to set and harden overnight before testing for leaks.
Undo the straps at one end holding the tank to the underbody. Let it down and balanced on the jack roll it out from under the car. It will be very heavy and it will want to tip as the fuel sloshes around inside.
See if you can get a helper. Now you will likely see the source of the leak.
