In this post youll know why the charcoal canister is causing the slow refueling and what you can do to fix it. I got my truck back and the light was off for about a day and a halfanyways now I cant fill up my gas tank. I stick the nozzle in start to pump and click gas shuts off.
I pull the nozzle out hit the trigger and I can see the gas filling quickly in the openingas if something is blocking it from entering the tank. I will bet that you have an additional problemsymptom. You cannot quickly fill the gas tank on your car and the gas pump fuel nozzle keeps shutting off if you set it to the maximum flow rate.
It is extremely likely that you have a problem with either the gas tanks vent hose or with the evap system most likely the evap canister. Here is another thing about filling up over the last summer we towed our Travel Trailer to California from Nevada and after getting the campsite set up the Travel Trailer dropped the next day we went into town and i had 14 tank of gas so pulled into a gas station Shell when the tank was full I started to remove the gas nozzel IT WOULD NOT COME. I always get gas at the same station and the same pump for that matter.
For a few months it let me fill it all the way up every time. Just recently its gone back to only allowing me to fill it to 34 of a tank. I run it down to 35 miles on the DTE and then put in 10 gals and the gauge reads 34.
How Do I Fix My Gas Tank Not Filling. Run a vehicle diagnostics with a scan tool 2. Clean the area around the fuel tank cap 3.
Locate the Evaporative emissions control canister 4. Clean the hose connecting to the EVAP canister 5. Try filling your fuel tank with gas 6.
Get your EVAP charcoal canister replaced. When you fill up the vapors inside the gas tank need to move and expand. They do so through a charcoal canister and purge valve.
The vapors are stored there until the car is running. Then they are injected into the engine to be burned away. If the purge valve or charcoal canister are damaged this can cause problems when filling up.
I make the revision in the hoses and a find one whit a check valve inside this hose in teory works like an exhaust of the tank when it is filled when you put gasoline the gasoline uses an space in the tank and blow off the gases thats gases go out by this hose but in my car the check valve have the wrong position its close in the direction fron the tank to outside I turn it and its open in the direction from the tank. The Fuel Evap Canister is located on the bottom of the vehicle and is required due to EPA regulations. The canister has a charcoal filter in it and traps vapors when fuel is evaporated and sends that fuel back into the tank.
When that canister gets clogged with dirt you will have problems refilling the tank. Hey guys So I went to fill my truck up this morning. I had driven 650 kms and was under half a tank.
The truck only took 24 liters before it kicked off though. I waited a few minutes turned the truck on and off even drove down the road. The fuel is still full in the filler.
Keeping a full tank of gas is most beneficial to your car over the long run. Your gas tank is an empty space and whatever space is not filled by gas is filled with air. Air contains water vapor which can condense on the sides of your fuel tank.
This condensation can cause two problems. Is it bad to let your gas tank run low. It has to do with inadequate venting of the fuel tank while filling in-concert with damaged or clogged overflow prevention venting in filling nozzles at some gas stations with less than stellar pump maintenance programs.
But this is not only Dodges Jeeps either. Cant get gas to go in tank and it will spit out gas. Every gas tank has a vent tube so when you fill the tank air can escape while the fuel is being pumped into the tank.
Some vent tubes are metal some rubber. Yours is either collapsed or plugged up. Look at the fill tube in the firebird and follow it from the gas cap.
It could be the gas station or a design issue with the vehicles filler tube. If trying a different gas station doesnt work its the design of your filler tube. My company works on fuel filling systems specifically the filler neck etc.
And Ive heard of a. I can no longer fill up my gas tank in one go. This started gradually over a few months initially only happening at one pump at the closest station.
Now however I cant get more than a gallon or so before the pump clicks off. I then have to pull the pump out wait a few seconds after which I can put in another 34 of a gallon or so. You really have to keep an eye out when filling up to make sure it does not overflow.
Keep tabs on how many gallons are needed to fill up. I have tried repositioning the gas nozzle in different ways and just like any other car do not jam it in all the way. The bend of the pump nozzle is supposed to rest on neck of the filling tube.
Sometimes my tank wont take any fuel. Every other tank full I cant get more than 10 gallons in an empty tank and other times it will let me fill it. The filler neck overflows sometimes and it never pumps more than 1 gallon between resets of the pump.
Any help would be appreciated. My next step is to pull the tank and search for any obstructions. Cant fill up gas tank.
Start date Jan 21 2013. 20035 MSP Jan 21 2013 1 So as the title states I cant put any more than like a second at a time with the gas pump it keeps clicking and stopping. I searched a little but couldnt find this occurrence on a protege.
Yeah we have already installed the GM check valve to stop fuel from spewing out. This is a different symptom of the same problem where the defective check valve in the inlet of the gas tank that used to be stuck open is now stuck closed so you cant fill it up with gas. The gas tank has a separate vent system to allow the air in the tank to escape as it is being filled.
Most of the air goes through this vent system and not the plastic tube intake you checked. If you look at the tank filler port were the fueling nozzle goes you may see a hole on the side this is the exist hole for the air.
