I have tank size 245 gal and relating to the concentration levels on the MSDS it should be ok to use a can of 1516 with a full tank of 91-octane-unleaded. Post by prodigit onDec 9 2012 at 456am.
If the motor is detonating under a load it will help.
Can octane booster harm your engine. The typical small bottles of octane booster sold at servos or auto parts stores are a sham. At worst they can clog injectors which can lead to a lean condition which can destroy the motor. At best they have no effect at all.
The key point here is its about ratios. The answer to your question of whether octane booster will hurt your car - I am not familiar with your particular engine but I think I can say with confidence that No mixing in octane booster at the recommended rate will not hurt the engine at all. It will put a little wear and tear on your wallet but it wont hurt your engine.
Can octane booster harm your engine. Octane boosters DO NOT give your engine more power they reduce pinging and preignition in higher compression engines using obsolete fuel systems. If the tank is REALLY full the additive will just run down the side of the car on to your shoes.

At startup the bike will bog and the CDI will try to auto correct it I presume by making the spark go earlier. In the end nothing happened to my scooter. Using a higher octane does not increase the mileage or performance like some people think. Octane boosters wont damage your engine - but detonation will. Not sure how to answer your first question - youre right its not easy to tell and you will destroy your engine if.
Subsequently question is can octane booster harm your engine. A lower octane fuel than what is recommended can damage the engine as it causes knocks or irregular ignition. High octane fuel and boosters have negligible or absolutely no effect on low performance road-going cars.
Octane boosters increase the engine combustion temperature. Engine combustion which burns air and fuel inside is significantly improved because of octane boosters. As fuel containing octane boosters enters a vehicles cylinders the spark from the spark plug ignites the fuelair mixture.
I am wondering why you do not suggest the use of 1516 MMT Booster on cars with catalytic converters. I have tank size 245 gal and relating to the concentration levels on the MSDS it should be ok to use a can of 1516 with a full tank of 91-octane-unleaded. I need an increase of 3-4 RON for my 55 litre Bi-Turbo engine.
Discussion Starter 17 Nov 20 2019. The octane boosters you see advertised that claim they raise the octane 5 points really mean 5 or octane goes from 91 to 915. The Torco octane booster is real but is very expensive for daily use.
You need a quart to raise 91 to 96 on a 15 gallon fill. At 20 a quart that is mighty expensive. Unless your engine is pinging you could very well be doing more harm than good.
High octane gas leaves more carbon deposits in your engine. If youre asking yourself does octane booster work youll see the results with your engine running at peak performance for a longer amount of time. Octane boosters give you more power while youre using them and a longer life for the engine as it avoids the damaging effects of pre-ignition detonation and other undesired situations.
So in a way by applying octane boosters you return the engine to a better newer state. We would like to remind you that there might be other factors affecting horsepower. But if everything else is in check boosting up the octane number in the fuel your car uses is.
Octane booster wont hurt your motor at all. If the motor is detonating under a load it will help. If not its a waste.
My yz250 will detonate a little in hot weather under a loadI cant jet out the pinging and have it run cleanly. So I use cam2 or VP race gas to stop it. Running a higher octane fuel in an engine than it needs wont do it any harm.
It wont make it run better either. If your engine knocks or pings under load u need a higher octane fuel. If it dosnt u dont.
Folks that run a higher octane fuel than is recommended are just playing safe. It wont do any harm. However running too low an octane fuel will soon wreck your engine.
My opinion is. Even if octane booster fouls your o2 sensors. Replacing an engine or o2 sensors.
If your FI you should probably change your plugs a little more often anyway. A long time ago I have been given a box of NOS Racing Formula Octane Boosters. It states on the bottle that it contains MMT and will raise the octane rating by 60 points or 6 octane numbers.
You can find these things at any Autozone or Pepboys. They are like 10 a bottle. The only way I can prevent this is with octane booster.
I use Turbo 108 and on the can it says it will not harm 02 sensors. I know this not a worry for me since I dont have 02 sensors but it may work in FI bike with the sensors without harm. A lower octane fuel than what is recommended can damage the engine as it causes knocks or irregular ignition.
High octane fuel and boosters have negligible or absolutely no effect on low performance road-going cars. A manufacturer recommends a minimum octane fuel rating and these products will not make a difference.
